Cox Regression

Learn more about Cox regression – part 14 of our statistical methods.
🎓️ In our last post we learned about the log-rank test for comparing the survival times of two groups.
❓️ But which tool can we use when we want to measure the influence of more than one variable on the survival time?
Statistical Method:
📊 ️Cox Regression: Like other regression models, Cox regression can be used to measure the influence of several variables on an outcome variable simultaneously – in this case the outcome variable is the survival time.
📊 More concretely, we are looking at the hazard function, which gives the probability that the event of interest takes place in a certain interval if it has not taken place so far.
📊 Under the assumption that the hazard in the two groups is proportional, we get the constant hazard ratio, which gives us a comparison between the two groups which is independent of the time point.
⚠️ The proportionality assumption is important. If this is not fulfilled, you should use a different method!
